Storm!

The beginning of a nice storm that rolled in Tuesday night.  Had Ed take some videos for me on our drive back to the park from the Wagon Wheel in Interior.  Took another video later out his back door as the rain and wind picked up.  Unfortunately the video I tried to get of the hail did not work out.  The first video below is lacking in the lightening department, but I like it because it shows a drive that I'm so familiar with.

I do love storms!

Back in the Badlands Day 2

Tuesday June 12, 2012

Slept in just a little bit, then got ready and headed out to the Door/Window area for a couple hikes. Drove the loop road towards Sage Creek, making a couple stops along the way, including one for a picnic lunch. Headed down to the Sage Creek campground for a hike. I had to go back again to check on the bison carcass I discovered back in March. It is still there, mostly complete, but shifted a bit again. Tall, green grasses are flourishing under and around the remains. Sadly, someone has removed the horns. Tried to climb down into the creek bed to look at the nice fossil specimens there, but in the time since I last visited in April, the shelf of land that allowed access to the bottom has fallen into the creek. There may be another way down, and I'll probably come back to try to find it in August. Next we drove into Wall for some ice cream, gas, and an obligatory visit to Wall Drug. Drove back to the Cedar Pass area and met up with Ed. Had dinner at the Wagon Wheel, and on our way home a storm was rolling in. Had Ed take video as I drove back to the quad, and later took some video out his back door as the rain picked up. Turned into a pretty good storm later, hail and everything. Put the kids to sleep on Ed's apartment floor, and watched a movie.
